Adventures in History – 1st Televised Presidential Debate

Coincidentally, I was talking with Ry about this last night. We were discussing the upcoming election, and how the media has dramatically changed the outcome of this election with the constant negative and free press.

I was reminded of the first Televised Presidential Debate on September 26, 1960 between Richard M Nixon and John F Kennedy – on this day!

History Channel – This Day in History

Back in High School, we discussed how even though you shouldn’t “just a book by it’s cover” that’s all our society seems to put precedence and priority on. After the debate aired, people who watched the debate said that Kennedy won the debate hands down. However, people who listened to the debate over the radio, as television sets were still viewed as a slight luxury, said that Nixon won the debate.

I guess it just goes to show you that having a television personality pays off. I guess that’s why a human-cheeto-of-a-reality-TV-star-trash person is doing so well in the polls.
